Indian High School, Dubai won the CBSE UAE Clusters Tournament in Football.
Victory was, in fact, truly ours, when the girls of the Indian High School had a major success at the CBSE UAE Football Clusters. The tournament, which was held on the 24th and 25th of September, 2014 at DPS, Dubai is a proud moment for the girls in the school team, who won all 3 matches that were played.
The matches held on Wednesday (24/9) and Thursday (25/9) were nerve, wracking, action-packed and energy-consuming. There were 4 schools which participated – Delhi Private School (Dubai), Our Own English High School (Sharjah), Gems Our Own Indian (Dubai) and our I.H.S. I.H.S scored a total of 7 goals in the tournament with (4-0), (2-0), and (1-0) against OOEHS, GOOI, and DPS respectively.
Speaking to Divya Guwalani of 11 Sc C, who plays the goalkeeper, she says, “Our team is a good one. We have strong players. The match against DPS was challenging, as they were really good themselves, but we didn’t allow them conceive a goal. Overall, the tournament was a feather in the hat for us. It was a good experience.”
Out of the 7 goals that the school had conceived, 4 of them were from Derina Alexander of 12 Com C, who plays the right mid-fielder. When asked about how she felt after being the ‘Lady of the Tournament’, she humbly replies, “Actually, it wasn’t my glory time or anything, it was team effort. I really want to thank the whole team for that. I take it not as my achievement, but as the team’s achievement.” Derina also wishes to be a professional football player one day. The girls also would love to thank their football coach, Mr. Parthasarathy, for his guidance and his efforts.
With the medals and the overall cup in their hands, let’s wish the I.H.S girls’ football team, all the best for their nationals in India. Let’s hope they bring more laurels to our school.
