It’s Teacher’s Day at IHS!

September 5th is remembered by any Indian student with great fondness and eagerness. It is one day of the year when our teachers are appreciated for their valuable contribution to the society and student body by imparting knowledge and enlightening and shaping the career of students.

The Senior Section – Girls of IHS celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 7th, 2014 in the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium which was conceptualized and implemented by the Senior Council Members. But, one could feel the excitement and fervor in the air as early as September 2nd as the teachers were surprised to receive invitations to the event and circulars regarding a Student-Teacher Contact Session to collect their Report Cards! Little did they know that that this was just the beginning and that there were bigger surprises in store for them!2

The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Coming of Age’, a program divided into short segments which revolve around various stages of life namely childhood, teenage, youth and the present. Each module consisted of various events which echo with that stage of life.

The event began with a humorous disclaimer by Anjana Venu which stated that the council was not responsible for any laughter, noise or hooting made by the students and that judgment was solely reserved for God!

3The first event in ‘Childhood’ was a test for Latika Ma’am (Senior Supervisor – Girls) titled “What the Photo??!!” who had to guess the teachers from their Childhood Photographs. She did succeed with a little help from the students!

4As children, we all love to sing, play and dance all day long. To go back down the memory lane, the teachers played their own version of Ellen’s Dance Dare. They were made to dance behind students who were unaware of their existence. The students were amazed and taken aback to see a different shade of their teachers!

5Everyone one of us, at some point or the other, would have challenged our friends to a game of Tongue Twister. But, What if our very own teachers battle with each other? Well, it turns out be a neck wrecking match like the one our Senior teacher’s played in a game called ‘Tongue in a Twist’.

68The Teacher’s also had their own version of the prime time show ‘Koffee with Karan’ titled ‘Tang with Teachers’. Ms Sanjana Saxena (Senior Fine Arts Teacher) and Ms Upma Sharma (Senior Marketing Teacher) aka BFF’s of the section played a game of ‘Superfriend Cast’ where they tested the strength of their bond! Upon popular demand, a quick quiz for VIJAM – Ms Vidya Biju, Ms Jidha Jose, Ms Anitha Biju and Ms Merin Joshi – was also organized.

910It is a fact that Teacher’s make as much as 1500 decisions a day: that is an average of 4 per minute! Teaching isn’t rocket science, in fact it is much harder! The teacher’s proved just that when they played a game of multitasking called ‘I don’t know how she does it!’. The teacher’s were required to segregate paperclips from a potpourri of stationary supplies, chain them together and answer questions simultaneously.

11Remember those dreaded Just a Minutes for English FA components which shatter yourbrain into pieces? Well, the teacher’s too were in hot soup when they played a game of JAM with topics such ‘What will you do if you were Amitabh Bachchan’s wife?’, ‘What if you were fired today?’ and ‘What would you do if you were in Latika Ma’am’s Shoes?’.

And finally, the show ended with our teacher’s own version of the famous Oscar Selfie which was taken 13earlier this year at the Academy Awards which included various celebrities like Ellen Degeneres, Meryl Streep, Lupita Nanyong, Jennifer Lawrence and Brad Pitt. It gained over a million retweets in 24 hours but what about our very own celebrities who have redefined our lives over the years and touched 1000’s of hearts over the years?? They too deserve their moment of fame don’t they??

We haven’t reached the end yet! I hope I haven’t boredyou already! At the end of the day before wrapping up the day’s work, the teachers were surprised to find roses with a special message for each 1one of them. The Report Cards with special thank you messages from students were icing on the cake!

Our Teachers truly deserved every moment of fame today! After all, each one of them is Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in their own way…… If you were able to read this 750 article without stumbling on any word, be sure to thank your teacher for it!
